Brookline, Massachusetts - Zaftigs Delicatessen

Banana stuffed french toast ...
... and the inside!
No matter how much you love a foreign city, undoubtedly there are always comforts of home that you miss. For me, a proper American breakfast falls into this category. Each time I am home in Boston I always make it a point to head to Zaftigs in the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline. This Jewish style deli not only serves an amazing (all-day) breakfast, but also lunch and dinner. Some of the highlights are potato pancakes (latkes), fish plates, cheddar apple omelettes, mile-high deli sandwiches, blintzes and banana stuffed french toast. Breakfast is the most popular mealtime, but there are always lines out the door, so be prepared for a wait unless you are an early riser. For those who wish to dine alone, there are even a few counter seats. Zaftigs has won numerous awards over their fourteen years in business and deservedly so, their breakfasts are the best in the city.
