Capalbio, Italy - Lunch at Trattoria al Pozzo in Tuscany

Is there a more atmospheric place on a grey drizzly day than a medieval hilltop town in Tuscany? I don’t think so. Last Sunday I went for lunch in Capalbio, a walled town in the Maremma area of Italy whose history dates back to the year 806 A.D. From the Church of San Nicola in the main square, to the clock tower, and verdant views overlooking the fields below, Capalbio is a charmer.

We stopped at Trattoria al Pozzo (Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 17) for a lazy afternoon meal where we enjoyed two Tuscan favorites: porcini mushrooms and wild boar.

Special of the day: Tagliatelle with pumpkin and porcini mushrooms
Nothing says Tuscany like papardelle with wild boar ragu
A boozy finish: Mascarpone mousse with amaretti biscuits
Honest prices, friendly service, handmade pasta and a cozy brick and wood beam atmosphere, really, is there any better way to spend a rainy Sunday?!?
