London, England - Ice Skating at the Natural History Museum

The holiday season sort of crept up on me this year and admittedly, I haven’t done anything particularly festive. So I decided to remedy this by strapping on some ice skates and heading to the outdoor skating rink at the Natural History Museum on Sunday night.

As soon as December hits, outdoor rinks start popping up all over London. You may remember that last year my friends and I went to Somerset House for an afternoon skate.

An evening skate outside in the shadow of the Natural History Museum is just magical. Complete with a massive Christmas tree in the center of the rink, an old-fashioned carousel, a little German hut filled with sweets, and a café bar overlooking the rink that serves mulled wine and hot chocolate, it’s the perfect setting in which to spend a few hours getting in the holiday spirit.

Tickets must be bought in advance for a specific 50 minute ice skating session and skate rental is included in the ticket price. A zamboni cleans the ice surface after each session.
