When it comes to birthdays, I'm not a 'one and done' kind of girl; I believe in celebrating all month. So when I got back to London last weekend after the holidays, my friend Michelle (who also celebrated a birthday while we were away) and I decided to grab ten of our friends and have a joint birthday dinner at Bodo's Schloss.
Bodo's Schloss is a recently opened Austrian ski lodge-styled restaurant and bar that turns into a nightclub after dinner. Located in the former casino of the Royal Garden Hotel, the owners are also responsible for Mahiki and Whisky Mist, two of Prince William and Harry's former hangouts.
The setting, complete with cow bells, gingham checked table cloths, deer heads on the wall, skis and wood paneling, is like stepping into your favorite apres-ski lodge in the Alps. Girls are dressed in dirndl, while waiters wear lederhosen. Bodo's interior feels as authentic as you can get.
As we were a large party for dinner, we had a set menu. In keeping with the Alpine theme, the menu offers Austrian/Bavarian specialties like schnitzel, potato salad and sausages. Our set menu description and food shots below:
Here we are, the two birthday girls:
After dinner, all of the chairs and tables are pushed away and the restaurant becomes a proper disco. Shots of alcohol are served in a vintage ski, and bottle service is available at reserved tables. The high-brow crowd dances well into the wee hours, and for all we know, there could be a snow storm whirling outside.
