Tucked inside the Medina, this former residence of the Pasha of
Marrakech and later haute couture legend Pierre Balmain, is now a popular
restaurant called Dar Moha, in which you can enjoy the nouvelle Moroccan cuisine of Chef Mohammed
Fedal.
The central swimming pool in this riad, surrounded by over
thirty foot walls painted in Majorelle Garden blue, is the perfect dining spot
to enjoy lunch as the sun’s rays stream through the canopy of banana palms
overhead.
Come dinnertime, this 19th century riad turns
into an uber romantic setting with rose petal strewn floors illuminated only by
candlelight. Dar Moha is considered to be one of the premier dining spots
in Marrakech.
Here's what we ate:
Little Fresh Flavors of the Atlas Mountains:
Salad of tomatoes and bell peppers smoked in olive leaves
Carrot and orange juice scented with orange blossom water
Sweet pink onions with raisins
Eggplant mush with cumin (zaalook)
Slices of cucumber with thyme
Marinated green olive (darmoha)
Red bell peppers and almond mush
Spinach with perserved lemon
Grilled chicken skewers with oregano and grilled fish skewers with moroccan spices:
Potato croquettes with herbs:
Fresh raw salad:
Rice with peas:
Fresh mint tea to finish:
There's nothing like sitting outside in a t-shirt in 70+ degree weather in February enjoying a long, lazy lunch!
