You'd have to be pretty clever to pull of St. Tropez on a budget, but that being said, one of the most affordable no-frills hotels in the entire town, Hotel Sube, sits in the most enviable position of all: smack on the port and directly above Cafe de Paris. Spring for the rooms with balconies overlooking the harbor and you have the perfect perch to mega yacht and celebrity watch. (Pick up a bottle of wine from the supermarket and a rotisserie chicken from Place des Lices and you have a shoestring alfresco meal with a gazillion dollar view on your own private balcony).
Whether you are staying at the hotel or not, their Bar du Sube on the second floor, complete with model sailboats and nautical paintings, also has balcony tables from which you can sip rose wine and watch the sunset over the port below.
